Fischer Profile South Africa, established in 1979 and known internationally as the designer and manufacturer of a variety of components for the automotive industry, has recently expanded into the informal housing sector by launching the Fischer Housing division.  The new division will continue to uphold the high standards of quality, service and safety that the company is recognized for.

It has taken many years of committed research, development, design time and substantial financial investment to present these outstanding low cost houses.

The core of all house designs consists of various wall segment sub assemblies including aluminium framed windows and doors.  Roll formed and in-house developed steel sections are used extensively to provide quality of assembly, unique fire resistance and low maintenance.  It also allows the company to produce high volumes of sections and sub assemblies at short lead times.

The company uses superior in-house designed and manufactured tooling, roll forming lines and foaming machines, creating a high degree of manufacturing independency.  Coated Zincal material is used for the corrugated roof sheets and for the foamed (non flammable foam) outer skin panels.  These materials are successfully used in building industries worldwide, confirming Fischer Housing’s commitment to use proven quality materials and manufacturing techniques.

Two design systems are currently used:

Design No. 1 for 21 square meter house

Type 21 is a fully built up house with one bedroom, open plan kitchen / lounge area plus bathroom with toilet, wash basin and shower. The house has a standard width of 2600.0 mm and total height of 2850 mm. House to be supplied on medium sized (3 – 5 Ton) low bed trucks with lifting facilities.

Design No. 2 for 40 square meter house

Type 40 house design includes two bedrooms, bathroom with toilet, shower and wash basin plus open plan kitchen with dining and lounge area. Pre-assembled house elements consisting of various wall panel and roof elements are palletised and supplied in knock down condition. Approved contractors or home owners to erect onto a pre-cast concrete slab.

It is the hope of FISCHER HOUSING that the supply of these houses will make a positive difference in the lives of many families currently living in informal settlements throughout South Africa and other countries.  The company will thereby assist in closing the chronic gap in the supply of quality low cost accommodation.  In addition, creating much needed employment and training programs. 

PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES

The core of the unit design consists of simple sections made from coiled steel and ZINCAL and produced on FISCHER Roll forming Lines.  This unique combination presents the company with exceptional manufacturing capacities of cut to length quality sections, allowing FISCHER HOUSING to work within very short time frames.

WHY IS THE FISCHER HOUSING UNIT BETTER THAN WHAT IS CURRENTLY ON THE MARKET?

• A prefabricated floor structure is manufactured, using suitable steel tubing and steel reinforcement sections together with 18mm Shutterply pine floor boards covered with vinyl floor tiles.
• The core of the unit design is a foamed panel wall structure, using non-flammable foam and roll-formed steel sections produced by FISCHER Roll-forming machines. 
• The method used to assemble the wall panels ensures that they are dust and water proof with exceptional insulation properties.
• White ZINCAL sheeting used for the outside skin of the foamed panels is providing exceptional lifespan.
• Nutec sheeting used on the inside gives the unit a good homely feeling.
• White ZINCAL coiled material allows the company to manufacture ONE piece rain gutters for both sides of the roof with possible rain water collection.
• Aluminium framed windows allow for sufficient air circulation.
• A standard timber door mounted to an aluminium door frame supplies access to the unit.
• A steel framework and the use of insulation sheeting in the roof assembly together with the use of Nutec ceiling boards provides an structure that ensures the unit remains cool in summer and warm in winter.
• Sunset red corrugated roof sheeting, roof cappings and cladding made from ZINCAL material are used for the roofing assembly.
• The floor and roof steel frames are rust protected before final assembly.

Due to the company’s technical expertise, use of in-house designed and manufactured machinery and tooling together with in-house trained skilled operators, the company has the capacity to produce exceptionally high volumes.

INSTALLATION

Easy for the end user…All that is required is a reasonably level piece of ground.

The installation team will pour the precast concrete corner pillars required. Fischer Housing will supply fully assembled units directly to site via custom built trailers with suitable lifting gear.  Here the unit will be anchored onto the precast concrete corner pillars and leveled by the installation team.

Electricity and water connections to the site are not included in the price. Suitable solar electricity is available on request.

USAGE

The units are suitable for permanent or temporary accommodation as they provide acceptable, safe and weather resistant living conditions.

Emergency Housing

• Smaller knock down units for manual handling (on site erection) will be available

FUTURE PLANS

As the availability of suitable ground for human settlement is limited, the company has recognized the need for multiple storey units in the future. The design is available and shown on this site. Prototype units are to be built on request.

All unit designs together with the design and manufacture of all FISCHER roll formers, foaming machines and tooling is the intellectual property of FISCHER HOUSING (Pty) Ltd. The company is therefore in a position to supply turn-key manufacturing facilities in South African and other countries.
